Slaughter’s ceramic practice is informed by a background in Art History and Archaeology. Her Archaeological research explores cognition (skill-sharing, memory, and knowledge development), and theories of agency. Her material focus is pottery-making in Minoan Crete, with a focus on socio-technological theory in the adoption of pottery innovations. Through the lens of Material Engagement Theory, she examines the potter, the material, and environment (physical and abstract) as an embodied, embedded, and extended participants in the potter-making process. Slaughter draws inspiration from ancient Greek statuary, as well as prehistoric technology and technique working primarily in hand-built ceramic sculpture. She is currently based in Oxford, United Kingdom.
